EdTech Experience

Technology is rapidly evolving on a personal and professional level and it belongs in the classroom now more than ever. Teaching subject matter while utilizing these resources is transforming the educational experience for students. Not only are students able to master content knowledge in a highly diverse and meaningful way, but they are equipped with skills to be creators and innovators in society. As a teacher, I can't think of a more exciting place to be to facilitate and encourage this growth and development.

The ways to incorporate technology with math class are truly endless. We have come so far from a simple calculator to a device that can graph any equation in seconds to computer programs that are creating the unimaginable. These tools are not just about networking or popularity or social media, they are actually transforming the learner and accessibility to content. We have resources to adapt to every learning style, allowing for access points for all kinds of skills and learners.

Teaching with technology is not a burden; it is a gift. Opportunities and resources are abundant. Students are able to learn so much, so quickly, and so customized to their interests and abilities. As we utilize technology in our classrooms, we are shaping the future thinkers and creators of the world. We are facilitating the transformation of society as we support these students and their journeys in this technology-driven world. I can't wait to see what they all come up with!

Robotics in the classroom

In a very short amount of time, my fellow teacher, Heather, and I were able to program this robot to roll in a square just by tinkering around in an app. Imagine the possibilities of students experimenting with this kind of coding; it gets them excited and they see (and play with) the results instantly! (Below is our proud selfie with our square-rolling little guy!)

Flipped Lesson: Transformations

Here is an example of a Flipped Lesson I made about Transformations. Typically, these transformations are taught as individual sections from a full chapter in a textbook. It can take up to 4 days to teach all of the material that I cover in this video in just 3 short minutes. Utilizing technology for efficiency with time and learning is just one example of how its presence can truly transform the learning experience.

Here's a demo of what can be done in just 15 minutes. I had to make a video using "#reflectionprompt" as inspiration... with very little knowledge of the Clips app I was still able to come up with something very quickly, and very cool. Possibilities are endless!
